Local Red Cross and Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber Collecting Personal Care Items for Area Veterans

The American Red Cross is committed to serving publish and retired members of the U.S. Armed Forces, providing emergency communication services to link publish duty military members with their family back home as well as providing information, referral and assistance to veterans. Now, the local Red Cross has teamed up with Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber to offer additional assistance to area veterans with the Totes of Hope initiative.

Through July 31, the American Red Cross Keystone Chapter and Windber Medical Center will be collecting personal care items to assist homeless and underserved veterans in the local community. With a goal to collect at least 100 kits, the two groups are encouraging area residents to drop off items at the local Red Cross office – located at 250 Jari Drive in Johnstown – or at Windber Medical Center (600 Somerset Avenue in Windber).

Items must be new and can include any of the following: small notebook/pen, blanket, rain poncho, first aid kit, water bottle, flashlight with batteries, toothbrush/toothpaste, hand sanitizer, socks, underwear, T-shirts, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, dental floss, sewing kit, deck of cards, deodorant, disposable razors, shaving cream, anti-bacterial ointment, nail clippers and combs/brushes.

For more information on this project, contact the local Red Cross at 814-262-3170 or Windber Medical Center at 814-467-3705.
