Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber has been awarded a $500,000.00 grant from the state of Pennsylvania’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP), which will be used to support the expansion of its emergency room. One of the conditions of the $500,000.00 grant required Windber Medical Center to have matching funds available. Fortunately, Windber Healthcare Foundation has raised nearly $2.8 million towards the project through local support.
According to Windber Medical Center’s president, Barbara Cliff Ph.D., the expansion is needed to support the increased patient volumes that have been experienced by the emergency room. “This will also allow us to better meet the needs of our local communities and the people we serve,” said Dr. Cliff.
Windber Medical Center credits State Representative Frank Burns with securing the grant. “We can’t thank Rep. Burns enough for his support in navigating us through the entire grant process,” said Dr. Cliff. The expansion project is expected to begin later in 2011 and will add a number of jobs in both the health care and construction fields.
Representative Burns will be on hand next Tuesday, December 14th to present Dr. Cliff with a check for $500,000.00. The check presentation is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM. It will occur at WindberPlace on the campus of Windber Medical Center.
