Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber honored hospital & hospice volunteers during their Annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner on April 16, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Windber. Marlene McCrory was named the recipient of the 2012 David C. Klementik Hospital Volunteer of the Year Award, and Dorothy Altman was award the 2012 David C. Klementik Windber Hospice Volunteer of the Year Award. Mr. Klementik’s example of volunteering throughout our region and in particular, his dedication and service to Windber Medical Center, is the foundation for the criteria of this award.
Marlene’s joyful spirit and welcoming smile is often the first impression patients receive when visiting Windber Medical Center’s Ambulatory Surgery Unit. In the past 12 years, Marlene has proven to be one of the most reliable and dedicated volunteers. As a volunteer patient caregiver she assists in patient needs and has become like a mother figure to the staff.
Dorothy has been a volunteer with Windber Hospice since the fall of 2010. From the very beginning, she has been a real asset to our program. Her compassion for others and her dedication goes above and beyond in what she provides to our patients and their families.
