Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber employees not only provide the Planetree philosophy of Patient-Centered Care to their patients locally, but are reaching out on a global level as well. For the past 12 years, Windber Medical Center Physician, Dr. Rodolfo Furigay has worked alongside the Philippine American Medical Society (PAMS) of Western PA providing medical and surgical care to those less fortunate. The annual mission trip is personal for Dr. Furigay who was born and educated in the Philippines. Dr. Furigay came to the United States after medical school leaving behind family members and friends but continues to “give back” to his native country with each mission trip. This year Dr. Furigay will travel to Roxas Memorial Hospital, located on the island of Capiz, Philippines. Paula Grieco, PET/CT Patient Services Coordinator, rallied Windber employees to support Dr. Furigay’s humanitarian mission by holding a “Penny War” fundraising competition in August. The week long, interdepartmental competition and t-shirt sale raised a total of $3,785.25 for PAMS. Windber employees presented Dr. Furigay with the proceeds at a reception held on Friday, August 31st at the hospital.
