This position has the responsibility of meeting the needs of surgical patients effectively and efficiently by assisting in patient care while in the surgical suite. This position also includes performing the sterilization process of instrumentation and maintaining adequate supplies as needed. The surgical assistant may function as First assistant under the direct supervision of the attending surgeon after finishing school. Diploma from accredited school of surgical Technology required. This position is responsible for understanding and overseeing the Hospital’s clinical information systems as well as ensuring that all components are functioning properly. This position is also responsible for corrective actions regarding software and operating systems and contacting appropriate individuals regarding hardware issues. A clinical background is preferred to effectively interface with patient care staff and to understand their work practices and how information systems can best be utilized to facilitate the duties of staff in clinical areas. At least three years experience in a clinical hospital setting or an Associate’s degree in Information Systems required. Strong knowledge of clinical terminology and concepts preferred. Prior experience with information systems preferred. High degree of computer proficiency required.
