Bariatric Coordinator

The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in the continual growth and development of the hospital’s bariatric program and uphold the requirements of the facilities accreditation from the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery. The MBS Coordinator assists the center development, managing the accreditation process and ensuring continuous compliance with MBSAQIP requirements, maintains relevant policies and procedures, patient education, outcomes data collections, quality improvement efforts and education of relevant staff in the various aspects of the metabolic and bariatric surgery patient with a focus on patient safety. The MBS coordinator supports the development of written protocols and education of nurses detailing the rapid communication and basic responses to critical vital signs that is specifically required to minimize delays in the diagnosis and treatment of serious adverse events. Other responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: clinical care and education of the pre and postoperative patient, facilitation and coordination of monthly seminars and support groups, staff training and education. The coordinator will also have a primary role in the acquisition of new patients, program patient volume analysis, marketing, outreach, and community awareness of the program. The Bariatric Coordinator works in conjunction with the physician’s office staff and the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer. Valid Registered Nurse license required. Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university is preferred. Certification/training in bariatric program management will be required. CPR Certification required.
