1. What is your specialty?
I am certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner
2. Why did you want to become a Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP)?
Honestly, I love school. I really can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t learning something new or progressing my career through continuing education. Medicine is always evolving and I want to be able to do everything I can for my patients. Becoming a CRNP has awarded me that opportunity.
3. What is one aspect of the job that you find rewarding?
Nursing in itself is a truly rewarding career. It is incredible to be able help other people. As a CRNP I have the ability to treat patients and help them achieve their best quality of life. I love my job and feel blessed in this profession.
4. In your opinion, what’s the future of your field?
It will continue to grow, especially in rural areas where there are physician shortages. The collaboration between physicians and nurse practitioners has come a long way and we are becoming more and more respected in the field. I expect CRNPs to be utilized more and more in healthcare.
5. What do you do to achieve work/life balance?
I do not take work home with me. I enjoy reading novels, building puzzles, and watching my children in all of their endeavors, including sports, theater, and cheer. I love to watch the Pittsburgh Penguins with my family, especially my grandparents. It is important to maintain a work/life balance so I can be present for my patients at work and for myself and my family at home.
