Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber’s speech pathologists treat patients affected by speech, language, cognitive, voice, and swallowing difficulties. At our outpatient speech therapy department, we offer comprehensive evaluations and treatment plans designed to improve areas of deficit and overall quality of life for pediatric through geriatric populations. Our team consists of licensed speech pathologists specifically trained to provide specialized care to meet the needs of each individual.
Following an evaluation, a treatment plan is developed and reviewed with each individual. This may include therapeutic exercises, diet modifications and guidelines, compensatory techniques to improve speech intelligibility, techniques to improve vocal quality, strategies to implement to improve memory skills, and a home therapy program to promote carryover.
All outpatient speech therapy services require a physician’s order.
Shannon has been a speech language pathologist at CSSMCW since 2015, with a special focus in feeding and swallowing in the pediatric and adult populations. She is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania and has had an array of pediatric and adult therapy experience in the acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient, schools, and nonprofit agencies since 2001. Shannon has a passion for treating those with feeding and swallowing deficits, neurological deficits, and cognitive deficits. She serves as a clinical supervisor for Clarion and Indiana University of Pennsylvania students. She is certified to complete Modified Barium Swallow Studies in the pediatric through geriatric populations and has been specially certified to treat children with sensory needs via the SOS approach to feeding. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her 3 children ages 18, 15, and 13, going to the beach, hanging with friends, and being an influencer to those around her.
Brianne has been a speech therapist at CSSMCW since 2020. She holds a master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has experience with patients across the lifespan in the outpatient setting, acute care, and in the NICU. Brianne’s passion lies in working with the pediatric population in the areas of articulation, language, and feeding and swallowing. She believes in a strengths based approach to therapy, emphasizing connection, and supporting all forms of communication. Outside of work, Brianne enjoys spending time with her family, supporting her 3 children in their various endeavors, knitting, attending concerts, and performing in local theater productions.
Taylor is a graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Taylor has had a variety of experiences in a multitude of settings, including acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, pediatric outpatient, special needs schools, and the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Taylor has a passion for treating the pediatric population, as well as individuals in the acute care setting. Taylor works in multiple settings to continue to advance and further her skills. Outside of work, Taylor enjoys spending time with her chocolate lab, Ryder, exploring new places, drinking coffee, and being around her family and friends.
